At the organizational level, executives work with a professional coach and organizational psychologist, to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of all aspects of the business. Longer term goals are agreed upon, along with a strategic plan to achieve them. Actual achievements are regularly compared with projected progress along the plan and appropriate adjustments may be made accordingly.
At the individual level, key personnel are coached to maximize their potential, their well being, and to optimize outcomes of the strategic plan. Leaders set goals and plan a journey towards being the most authentic and competent they can be. Along the way, acquiring skills such as emotional intelligence and creative thinking promotes better decision making and interpersonal communications.
Client and coach generally establish SMART goals for the plan (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound), along with short- term stepping stones as the coaching process progresses. The goal may take the form of a specific objective, such as to merge, find a strategic partner, or acquire a business that fills a gap in the company's capabilities. Other times the goal may be more general, such as improved productivity or employee morale, or to reduce staff turnover. These general goals will be quantified within the plan so that they can be measured at specific milestones and those measurements compared to projections.
Different planning processes can be used if the goal is not easily quantified. For instance, if the goal is for the organization to be more innovative then upper management will be coached with the twin goals of enhancing leadership efficacy and promoting creativity as a core value within the organization.
In this and many other scenarios, there may be a crossover between coaching and a consulting role. As a trained coach and organization psychologist, Dr. André Walton has extensive experience in both.
Executive Coaching contributes to your organization's success in many ways, including:
Establishing new goals. It is easy for a business to lose its way. Reasons for this may include loss of a key associate, burnout, high staff turnover, an external traumatic event (COVID, for example), or dramatic changes in the market place. Coaching can play an important key role in getting a team back on track.
Developing new markets. Diversification by expanding geographically, by modifying existing products or services, or by developing or acquiring new products can play an important role in corporate survival and growth. At Plan4Change we have the expertise to guide you through these processes.
Another Set of Eyes. It can be lonely at the top, even if you are the primary decision maker with other board members by your side. An object view from outside the organization can give you confidence in your decisions, which improves the quality of those decisions, and reduces self-doubt and stress.
